The Pentagon will attack Iranian military targets (Russian Experts say)

MOSCOW, March 21 - RIA Novosti. According to General Leonid Ivachov, Vice President of the Academy of Geopolitical Sciences, The Pentagon plans to conduct a massive attack against the Iranian military infrastructure very soon.

"I do not have any doubt as to the reality of this operation or, more precisely, of this aggression against Iran", said the Russian General in an interview with RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

According to him, this conclusion was confirmed, in particular, by the American Israeli Political Action Committee (AIPAC) conference in Washington DC in early March, which supported the Bush agenda, and by the fact that a few days later, the US Congress withdrew an amendment prohibiting the President from attacking Iran without first consulting with Congress.

Experts note that these events clearly indicate that "they decided that this would be a good time for the operation. In other words, the community of American Jews and the Israeli initiative - represented at this conference by the Foreign Minister of the Hebrew State, formulated the directive to attack Iran ".

The experts emphasize that the United States is not planning a ground operation. They say "It is clear there will be no invasion on the ground. It will be a massive air strike, with the objective of destroying any military potential for resistance, military centers of command, key economic installations and, if possible, a part of the Iranian Government ".

General Ivachov did not exclude the possibility of strike by means of tactical nuclear weapons against the Iranian nuclear sites. " I supposed that one might use some type of low power nuclear weapon".

Experts affirm that the Pentagon initiative will be able to paralyse the life in the country, to sow panic there and, generally, to create a climate of chaos and uncertainty.

"That could revive internal conflicts inside Iran. A peace mission would follow, to set up a pro-American government in Tehran ", predicted General Ivachov.

He added that the purpose of all that will be to restore the credibility of the Republican Administration, which will be able to assert that the Iranian nuclear potential was destroyed.

Among the possible consequences of the military operation, the General posited the partition of the country, as is being suggested in Iraq. According to him, "this plan was effective in the Balkans, so now it will be applied - if it has not already been done - to the larger Middle East".

Questioned on the issue of knowing if Russia were in a position, through diplomacy, to influence the events evolving around Iran, the expert affirmed that "Moscow must assert her influence, by calling an urgent meeting of the Security Council of United Nations to consider the issue of unsanctioned aggression being planned against Iran, and of non-observance of the principles of the Charter of United Nations".

General Ivachov saod that "In that context Russia could cooperate with China, France and the nonpermanent members of the Council. Such preventive measures could contain the aggression ".
